Sometimes a grant doesn’t fund a big project. Sometimes it creates a favorite place.
Thanks to a grant from the Sherman County Community Foundation (SCCF), an underused corner of the North School library has been transformed into a cozy new Book Nook where students can relax and enjoy a good book.
The project included comfortable seating, floor cushions, a new bookshelf, and additional books to expand the library’s collection. By coming in under budget, even more seating was added, making the space even more inviting for students. The result was immediate.
The Book Nook has quickly become one of the most popular spots in the library, especially for students who enjoy spending their free time reading. What was once unused space is now filled with students discovering new books, finding a quiet place to read, and enjoying time in the library.
“We often talk about grants creating impact, and sometimes that impact looks like a building project or major equipment purchase,” said Tina Wolak, Executive Director of SCCF. “Other times it’s creating a space where kids want to spend time. This project may seem simple, but it will benefit students every day for years to come.”
The Sherman County Community Foundation awards quarterly to projects that improve quality of life and strengthen the community. Grant applications for the current cycle are due June 30th.
