GHS Receives Grant for Outdoor Sports Cooling Equipment

Goodland, KS — The Sherman County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Goodland High School has been awarded a grant to purchase five misting fans that will benefit a wide range of outdoor athletic teams and activities.

The grant was written by Reagan James, a junior at Goodland High School and a summer intern with the Community Foundation. Originally inspired by a need she saw on her own tennis team, Reagan’s idea quickly expanded into a project that will support athletes across multiple sports, including golf, x‑country, football, track, baseball, and softball.

“These misting fans will make a huge difference for our student-athletes,” said Goodland High School Tennis Coach, Ali Hollern. “Staying cool and safe during practices and competitions is vital, and this equipment will help all of our outdoor teams perform at their best.”

For the Sherman County Community Foundation, this project is also a point of pride in seeing local youth step up as leaders. “Reagan recognized a need, took the initiative, and turned it into a grant that will serve not just her team, but the whole school,” said Executive Director Tina Wolak. “This is a great example of how our youth can lead the way in building stronger, healthier communities.”

The misting fans are expected to be in place before the end of the current sports season, ensuring that GHS athletes can train and compete safely, even during Kansas’ hottest months.
