Fort Hays Tech Northwest Awarded Grant

Sherman County Community Foundation Funds Kansas-Themed Mural at The Price Convention Center with $6,500 Grant

Goodland, KS – The Sherman County Community Foundation(SCCF) is excited to announce a $6,500 grant to bring a brand-new, Kansas-inspired mural to life on the south side of Fort Hays Tech Northwest’s Price Convention Center. This mural will celebrate Kansas’s unique beauty and local heritage, giving a fresh splash of art to a recently renovated community gathering spot.

The mural project has become a true community collaboration, with Goodland’s High Plains Museum stepping in to share historical photos from its archives. These images, donated by local families over the years, capture some incredible moments from Sherman County’s past, connecting the mural with generations of community memories. As a bonus, students in the Computer Graphic Technology program will bring their skills to the project, gaining hands-on experience in creating a lasting piece of public art.

The Price Convention Center, recently revamped by Fort Hays Tech Northwest, is now a go-to place for local events, regional industry partners, and community gatherings. This mural is part of a bigger plan to make campus spaces even more welcoming and engaging for students, locals, and visitors. Kansas’s rich history and wildlife will be represented in the mural – a reminder of all that makes this area special and worth celebrating.

“We’re so thrilled to support a project that brings people together and adds even more personality to our campus and town,” said Gia Brachtenbach, Design & Digital Media Instructor. “This mural will be something our students, community, and visitors can enjoy and feel proud of.”

The Sherman County Community Foundation is proud to support projects that brighten and strengthen our community. For more details about SCCF and its community work, please reach out to Tina Wolak, Executive Director at 785–728-7800.
